Simon Klavžar

Simon Klavžar is Associate professor for percussion and head of Winds, Brass and Percussion Department at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. As performer, he is currently mostly active in the contemporary music field, performing with Alexej Gerassimez Percussion Collective, Schallfeld Ensemble Graz, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Neofonia Ljubljana, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and others. Since the formation in 2006, he has been performing with Jože Bogolin as percussion duo Drumartica in the USA, Japan and across Europe at venues such as the Carnegie Hall (New York), Hermitage Theater (St. Petersbourg), Berlin Philharmonie (Berlin), Auditorio de Tenerife (Spain), Kennedy Center (Washington DC) and Luxembourg Philharmonic Hall. The duo received first prizes at the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg, Salieri-Zinetti chamber music competition in Verona and numerous other prizes. Simon Klavžar recorded CD’s Drumartica I and Saxala with new music for percussion and saxophone.
In 2015, Simon Klavžar apeared as a soloist at the World Music Days with Radio Symphony Orchestra of Ljubljana and performed a world premiere of a double concerto by Matej Bonin for percussion and saxophone in season 2022/23 with the same orchestra. In the 2023/24 season, he performed Bonin’s concerto with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Agata Zubel’s percussion concerto ‚Flash‘ at the New Music Forum festival. He was a member of the World Percussion Group touring Northern Europe in 2017 and has held masterclasses at the music academies and universities of Furman, Western Washington, Budapest, Nürnberg, Gdańsk and Salerno, as well as at numerous percussion festivals.

Pedro Carneiro

Conductor, percussionist, composer, educator. He is co-founder and artistic director of the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra (OCP), the inclusive ensemble Notas de Contato, the Portuguese Youth Orchestra (JOP), and various social projects. Among other distinctions, he has received the Gulbenkian Art Prize, an award from President Jorge Sampaio (on the 30th anniversary of the 25th of April Revolution), and the Medal of Honor of the City of Setúbal.

He has performed and conducted the world premieres of over one hundred new works and collaborates with prestigious national and international musicians worldwide. He has performed with a wide variety of national and international orchestras: Gulbenkian Orchestra, Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Budapest Festival Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, SWR Symphonieorchester, English Chamber Orchestra, São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, among many others.

He regularly performs as a conductor and soloist/director, conducting concertante works from the marimba. He is a professor at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML). His extensive discography (which includes solo recordings, chamber music, concertante works and improvisation) is available on various labels, such as ECM Records, Clean Feed and Rattle Records.

Conrado Moya

Internationally recognized as a leading figure of the marimba, Conrado Moya is one of the most acclaimed performers of his instrument today, with tours, concerts, and recitals that have taken him across Europe, China, Japan, Latin America, and the United States.

In Spain, he has performed with ensembles such as ADDA Simfònica, Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa, Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Orquesta de Córdoba, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, and Orquesta de Extremadura, among others. These collaborations are complemented by appearances with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Göttinger Symphonieorchester, and Stadtorchester Frauenfeld.

Deeply commitment to his country’s musical heritage, Conrado Moya has worked directly with some of its most prominent Spanish composers. In this regard, he has given the world premieres of several marimba concertos —dedicated to him— written by Tomás Marco, Lorenzo Palomo, José Luis Greco, and Albert Guinovart, the latter recorded on an album with the Banda Municipal de Barcelona. In addition, he has created a marimba transcription of the Concierto Heroico by Joaquín Rodrigo, with the exclusive authorization of the composer’s heirs.

Among his chamber music activities, highlights include the Goldberg Variations project by J. S. Bach alongside Katarzyna Myćka, his involvement in Marimba Quartett as a founding member, and more than 30 contemporary works written for him by national and international composers such as Ferran Cruixent, Gabriel Ordás, Arkadiusz Kątny, and Christos Hatzis, among many others. Conrado Moya has also released three albums spanning music from Bach to Albert Guinovart, including works by Emmanuel Séjourné, Anna Ignatowicz, and Eric Sammut, and is currently preparing his next recording project for marimba and orchestra.

Trained at the conservatory of Alicante —his hometown—, Stuttgart, and the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin, Conrado Moya has received distinctions such as First Prize at the Córdoba International Marimba Competition and the Honorary Prize at the Alicante Performance Competition, as well as the “Rosa del Desierto” Award and a scholarship from the Asociación Pro-Música “Amadeo L. Sala”. His pedagogical work leads him to give masterclasses and marimba courses around the world. He currently holds the chair of marimba and percussion at the Escuela Superior de Música de Alto Rendimiento – ESMAR in Valencia, Spain. Conrado Moya is endorsed by the American marimba maker Marimba One, with whom he has also developed his own series of marimba mallets.

Filip Merćep

Filip Merćep, is a renowned Croatian percussionist recognized for his versatility, creativity, and innovative approach to contemporary performance. He first gained international attention as a finalist of the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition in 2010 and has since received numerous distinctions, including the Ivo Vuljević Award, the Zagreb Philharmonic Award, the Porin Award for Best Classical Performance, and prizes at percussion competitions throughout Europe.
He graduated in percussion from the Academy of Music in Zagreb and continued his studies in Live Electronics in Amsterdam, developing a distinctive artistic profile that bridges classical performance, contemporary music, and technology. His artistic work spans solo performances, chamber music, multimedia productions, and interdisciplinary collaborations. As a member of the Sudar Percussion ensemble, he performs in projects that combine acoustic instruments, electronics, theatre, and multimedia. He is also a member of the Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Quartet, with whom he has appeared at international concert series, percussion events, and music festivals across Europe and the United States, collaborating with leading performers and composers in the field. With his friend and colleague Boy van Ooijen, Merčep is the co-founder of the DigitalTwin duo, an interdisciplinary artistic project exploring the connections between music, artificial intelligence, interactive technologies, and video games. Their work includes original performances for vibraphone, drum set, electronics, and visuals, as well as the development of interactive web applications and video games that merge artistic expression with emerging technologies. One of their most successful projects, VUM – Video Gaming with Arts, combines a unique physical playground with video games controlled by musical instruments, allowing participants to race cars by playing drums, control arcade games using a piano keyboard, perform as DJs, and develop musical skills through interactive gameplay. The project has attracted more than 6,000 visitors and introduced new audiences to music through innovative digital experiences. Alongside his performing career, Filip is an active educator and masterclass leader, teaching throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. He is the founder and artistic director of the International Marimba Week in Tribunj and continuously promotes Croatian music and contemporary percussion repertoire through performances, educational projects, and international
collaborations.
