International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy – IKMMA 2027

International Katarzyna Myćka Marimba Academy is one of the most prestigious marimba events which are not a competition. Since 2003 the biennale has participated percussionists/marimbists (lecturers and students) from all over the world.
During every edition, renowned music universities from the whole globe offered their space for IKMMA’s activity. In 2019 Marimba Festiva Association got involved as strategy partner and we all are looking forward to the 12th IKMMA which will take place at The University of Ljubljana, the capital of beautiful Slovenia.
With the experience of previous editions, we will continue with the structure of:
32 active students having a private lesson of 40 minutes daily with one of our faculty members, as well as playing in at least 2 chamber music ensembles with daily rehearsals (coached by teachers and assistants) and being encouraged to perform at our concerts every night.
The welcome and farewell dinners will help you to meet before you start working together or celebrate the good time.

It’s a great honour to work with these kind professionals and offer you many languages for individual lessons!
A great message to people who will join us is about John Psathas, who will join us for couple of days to work on his pieces and share the editing spirit of his compositions. If you want to enjoy his individual coaching, make sure to prepare one of his pieces!
IKMMA office will be managed by Julianna Siedler-Smuga, the application process will start probably in January.
Also 2027 we will offer some limited places for the program of Short Study Experience for people, who will just like to have 3 private lessons and enjoy the event as a passive member, without performing in chamber music groups. If it’s your first experience with this high lever event, the intensive program might be to heavy for you to handle – SSE will be the great solution!
IKMMA has always been a great place to meet wonderful teachers, make new friends, use your communication abilities and languages, set up your network allover the world and get inspired for your future life! Don’t miss the chance to be in Ljubljana in July 16th-25th 2027!
To answer a question, which reaches me quite often – HOW DO WE SELECT PEOPLE FOR IKMMA?
It is a very friendly event, not a competition, so we will accept first 32 applicants. When the list is full, we will offer you a place at the waiting list or encourage you to join us in the program of Short Study Experience or just come as a guest, getting the daily pass.
We would like to offer you the highest quality and care, that’s why the amount of places is limited.
