International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy – IKMMA 2019
What a great pleasure to welcome all of You in my beloved home city Gdansk! Gdansk is a beautiful place, rich in its history and a real pearl of architecture. Many of you are visiting IKMMA multiple times. And this is a great confirmation for me that you like and support this project and furthermore, follow the idea of meeting new friends throughout music. At IKMMA you have the extraordinary opportunity of exchanging ideas and communicating in the world’s most beautiful language – music. For this year, I would like to warmly welcome our faculty – Grzegorz Jurczyk from Bydgoszcz, who will be with us for the first time, Svet Stoyanov and Pedro Carneiro, my prominent colleagues, whom many of you know from previous editions already. Our sympathetic assistants Conrado Moya and Filip Mercep, who are going to support You during our chamber music rehearsals and as always help the event to be enjoyable.
It is an honor for me to have Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska as our IKMMA composer. Her music plays a significant role in my life and for many of You, represents the Polish marimba music all over the world. We are living in difficult times… I would like to turn this sentence — have there ever been easy times? Nations are claiming to show off their identity and importance in different ways… Let’s help building bridges over borders throughout music and with our very international group of people at this edition. Let’s be an example of respect, friendship and joy! My gratitude to the team of the Academy of Music in Gdansk goes to especially the authorities, the administration team and my colleagues, who also will be taking part in the concert on July 4th with Anna Ignatowicz-Glińska’s works. Nevertheless, I want to say a big thank you to all sponsors, who support this edition with instruments, founds, time and dedication. For the very first time, IKMMA started collaborating with Marimba Festiva. So therefore, I would like to thank Slawomir Mscisz for the intense and supportive time of preparation. I wish you all a great time in Gdansk and hope that you will love this place as much as I do and come back,
Yours, Katarzyna Myćka
